Oyster Point Ramp Access Improvements Project Begins

Construction is set to begin this month on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT’s) Oyster Point Ramp Access Improvements Project. The project, which will begin as early as today, Jan. 10, will widen the Interstate 64 East on-ramps located at the interchanges of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (Route 17) and Oyster Point Road (Route 171) from single-lane ramps to two-lane ramps. These improvements will add capacity to the on-ramps, streamline flow to the interstate, and provide congestion relief from overflow onto local streets during peak travel periods. Each of the on-ramps will be widened to two lanes, with traffic then merging to a single lane before entering the interstate.

During construction, motorists can anticipate some travel lane shifts within each ramp to accommodate expansion work along the shoulders. Each on-ramp is expected to remain open to traffic until final paving operations near the conclusion of the project. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2024.
