Congratulations to the Class of 2021

As we enter the summer season it is proper to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of those who will be taking the next steps in their adventures. To that end we would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to the graduates of 2021. For those who will be leaving High School and into the wide-open world, remember that there is always more to learn and do than is possible in one lifetime. For our College graduates, take a breath the work is done but the adventure continues. It is time to use what you have learned to make the world a better place. With that I present the members of Class of 2021 from The Village Green.

Emily Harless is graduating as Salutatorian at Lighthouse Christian Academy and is intending to take a gap year then attend Cosmetology School.

Adam Silvia is graduating from Warwick High School with Honors and will be attending Iowa Western Community College in the fall pursuing a degree in Cyber Security.

Mikayla Joy Goodwin is graduating from Warwick High School Advanced Studies Diploma, with Honors and is planning on serving in the US Navy.

Courtney Bauserman is graduating with Honors in the Presidential Leadership Program from Christopher Newport University with her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.

Jill Bauserman graduating from Regent University with her second Masters of Education degree becoming a Reading Specialist.

Please get your pool passes now

Our pool will be open the following days/times for Memorial Day weekend:

  • Sat, May 29 11am-8pm
  • Sun, May 30 1pm-8pm
  • Mon, May 30 11am-8pm

As Memorial Day weekend and the 2021 opening of our Village Green pool approaches, the VGCA would like to remind everyone that you must join the Village Green Community Association and the pool in order to enjoy the pool. Any resident of Village Green, whether you rent or own, may purchase a membership.  The easiest way to do this is to go to https://vgnn.org/join and either use the Paypal link (fees apply) or print out the form and turn it in to the green mailbox in the front flower bed at 625 Brandywine Drive.

Donnie Woodruff, the pool manager, and Laura Cvitanovich, the membership chairman, plan to enjoy the holiday weekend with their families and will not be available to process and verify memberships through the weekend.

Although we will continue to accept memberships throughout the summer, if you plan on joining the pool AND using it during the opening weekend, please turn in your paperwork prior to the close of business (5 PM) on Tuesday, May 25. This will ensure that your payment can be processed and your pool bands delivered before the weekend.

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Calling All Graduates

It is that time of the year again where we would like to recognize our neighbors for their hard work and great achievements. If you have High School Graduate please send us their name, school, ambitions if they have any, and maybe a picture to go along with it! I also know there are a few amazing and dedicated individuals here who will be walking this last year with their higher education degrees as well. We want to hear about them too, including tech and trade schools!

Please submit all information to [email protected] by Friday, May 28th so that we can ensure they make it into the Saturday morning edition.

Congratulations and Good Luck Graduates.

8 days of progress with the pool

Many volunteers have been involved to get the pool ready for this season.  Here is a short clip of the progress that has been made in the past 8 days!

Thank you to all that have helped and if you haven’t joined pool yet, please consider doing so.  It helps support our most rewarding asset.

Open Board Meeting May 18

Attention Community! Open Board Meeting to take place on May 18th starting at 5pm. From 5-6pm we will be enjoying hotdogs and conversation by the pool. 6-7pm will be the meeting. Please come out to support the community, turn in your membership forms, and socialize with your neighbors! The Board looks forward to announcing all the great things we have planned for the summer, including some park rehabilitation and many events! As a reminder the current Covid-19 guidelines allow for us to have up to 100 people in an outdoor setting. Masks and social distancing are still part of the guidelines. We look forward to seeing you all there and to be able to share the exciting plans for the summer.

Fund our Fun! Memorial Weekend Basket Raffle

Our Fundraising for the park is ready to continue with the lightened COVID restrictions and warmer weather. The Basket Raffle that was originally planned for January will be starting on Sunday, May 30, at the park, with drawings happening at 6pm during the DJ in the park event. If you would like to donate a basket to the raffle or monetarily help in creating a basket, please contact Stephanie GianDonato at 240-672-2747. We will also be holding a 50/50 raffle with the proceeds also going to the playground equipment.

So far, we have raised just over $1,400 with a total goal of $3,000. The board has voted to our fundraising up to $3,000. Only $1,600 to go to reach our goal and receive the greatest match from the VGCA! We all deeply appreciate all the effort that has been put forth so far from the community to help make the new playground equipment a reality!

Parents — please remind your children to keep our park clean.

I am one of the volunteers for Village Green Community Association but more importantly a parent of two boys that use the park regularly.  After finding the park littered with water bottles, empty bags of chips, and used napkins I had a talk with my boys.  They were not the source of the trash but I asked them to model appropriate behavior for other children in the park.

I am asking all parents that have children (no matter what age) who use our park to remind them to pickup after themselves.  Also have them respect the park, the equipment, and surrounding areas.  Working up at the pool for many hours the past 3-4 weeks, I have seen actions by preteens and teens that indicate to me that the VGCA park and property are not being respected.  The families before us have maintained VGCA property so our families can enjoy today and in the future.

I spent 10 mins of my morning picking up litter in the park.  There are trash cans in the park — please have your children use those.

Thank you.

A few positive changes for the 2021 pool season…

We will be self managing again this year, so we will have the freedom to make some of the changes to our pool season.  We are looking to do the following:

  • Open at 11am on Saturdays.
  • Adult lap swim from 8-9pm during week nights.
  • Concession stand will be open during breaks.
    • Sell pre-packaged foods, snacks, and drinks.
    • Staffed by young volunteers.
    • All proceeds will go to the swim team for fundraising.
  • HRA will be using our pool on Tues/Thurs from 1:30-3:30pm BUT will be limited to 20 HRA swimmers per hour.
  • Swim team will have meets against other pools BUT they are slated to be virtual at this point which means they we only have our team swimming at our pool.

Please note:  we will monitor usage of the early Saturday hours, adult lap swim, and concession stand usage and adjust accordingly as the summer progresses.

We look forward to having a successful season and we hope you will support our most important asset and become a pool member this season!  Join by April 30th to get 5 free one day passes for the pool.
