I Want Your Dessert!!

Calling Village Green bakers of all ages!

We need your entries for our July 4th Patriot Bake-off Contest!

Let’s show our firefighters a little love and appreciation by giving them a lot of yummy treats to judge for our contest.

This year we will have 3 categories and a Kid’s only group:

  • Kid’s Only: This category is open to Village Green youth ages 12 and under. Any dessert is welcome.
  • Pies: “Pie (noun): a baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and a base of pastry. Ex. ‘There is nothing more American than apple pie!’” Any type of dessert pie is welcome.
  • Cookies / Bars / Brownies: Any type of cookie, brownies, or dessert bars are welcome.
  • Other: Any dessert that doesn’t fit in any of the above categories.

Winners will be chosen in each category based on taste, appearance, and originality. One winner from all entries will be chosen as Most Patriotic.

Submissions must be homemade (not store bought) and must be baked or include a home-baked element. All entries are to be submitted as a whole (complete pie, complete cake, complete loaf, etc.) or in the quantity of a half dozen or more.

Registration is on day of the event between 11:00-11:25am at the picnic shelter in the park and will close 5 minutes before judging takes place.

Participants may enter multiple categories.

Participants may enter with any recipe (it does not need to be an original recipe created by the entrant.) Recipes may come from cookbooks, magazines, websites, or any other means.

Please bring a copy of your recipe.

Candy donations and raffle prizes needed…

Just a reminder that we’re now accepting candy donations for the bike parade at 678 Village Green Parkway. There’s a plastic crate behind our front brick wall. Or, if our front door is open behind the storm door, feel free to ring the bell and give us the candy in person. The cupboard is currently bare, so don’t assume someone else is donating all the candy we need.

Also, we’re still in need of a LOT more raffle prizes. We had a few merchants who donated something on the spot, but we’re still following up with others, not knowing whether they’re going to donate or not. If you know a business owner who might be willing to contribute a prize, please contact them. We have contacted pretty much all of the Tech Center businesses, plus Papa Murphy’s Yorktown, AMF bowling center, Regal Cinema and Azzurri Italian restaurant.

You can contact me at 652-5770 or [email protected] if you have any questions or if you’d like a copy of the raffle prize request letter which we have been giving to potential donors.

We are in need of someone to head this small project up.

I am looking for one or two people to head up the installation of these doors (will need a helper or two as well). It would be great if they were installed by July 4th as the old ones are in pretty bad shape (rusted). I have most of the materials up there. If you let me know when you are going to work on it, I will be certain to have all materials available — you will need to bring your own tools.

Reach out to me by sending email to [email protected]

THANK YOU!

Amazing volunteers…

Video of our National Anthem sung by Zion Goodwin.

For the first time ever, the amazing volunteers of Village Green prepared the pool for 4 swim meets in 6 days! That’s amazing! A few volunteers actually took time off from work to help make sure the swimmers had a pool and concessions ready to go.

Saturday, June 15th we had our time trials for the team. Our first official meet was scheduled for Monday, June 17 BUT the weather didn’t cooperate. We had a delayed start and got about an hour into the meet when we had to cancel it. We tried again Wednesday but after 5 minutes of warm ups we had to cancel it. The third time was the charm and we had great weather. It was a little breezy and chilly for the swimmers but the volunteers and spectators appreciated the break from the normal hot and humid conditions.

We had neighbors help who kids haven’t been on the swim team in years and we had neighbors without swimmers on the team help us out too! We appreciate all the help we received! THANK YOU!!!

Pool news for Thurs, June 20th and Fri, June 21st

The diving board, ladders, and stairs have all been re-installed for your enjoyment and safety. HRA campers will be using the pool with us from 1:30pm-3:30pm on Thursday, 6/20.

We had to reschedule the swim meet once again. It is scheduled for 6pm on Fri, June 21st. The pool will be open for normal swim 1pm-4:45pm on Friday and then closed after that for the meet.

We REALLY could use volunteers to help with the swim meet…no experience necessary. We need help preparing the pool deck, with concessions, and with timing (simple stopwatch operation). If you are able to assist, please arrive between between 4:45pm and 5:15pm on Friday. Thanks in advance!

Pool will be open 1pm-4:45pm on Wed, June 19th

We had to reschedule our swim meet from Monday due to weather. It is scheduled for 6pm on Wed, June 19th.

Due to the diving board not being installed today, it will not be available for use on Wednesday for the 3.75 hours we are open.

Pool news for Tuesday, June 18th (HRA, diving board, and stairs)

HRA campers will be sharing the pool with us tomorrow and Thursday from 1:30-3:30pm. A 3rd lifeguard will be on duty during this time period.

Also, due to the storm tonight, we were not able to put the stairs or diving board back in the pool after the canceled swim meet. I will try to get a couple of volunteers to do it Tuesday night.

Damaged area in park has been reported to pool management company.

UPDATE: The pool chemical company will be sending over a crew to fix the area this weekend. In the meantime, please be careful in this area.

The pool chemical supply company delivered chlorine on June 13 and turned around in this area. Please be careful when using this area as the ruts are quite deep.

We have reported the issue to our pool management company and requested for it to be fixed.

Eye opening perspective on VGCA Membership

Since March, we have been showing our VGCA Membership Drive information compared to our goal. The image above shows a more disconcerting view into our membership situation. Surprisingly, not even 1/2 of our neighbors are supporting Village Green and less than a 1/4 support our pool.

If you are a member, help us get the word out. Talk to your neighbors and ask them if they support the neighborhood. Ask them if they are seeing updates and emails from the Village Green Crier — if not direct them to the vgnn.org website…help promote our GREAT neighborhood!

For those not a member or not a pool member — consider that all residents (owners and renters) benefit from the pool, clubhouse, park, playground and manicured entrances by improved quality of life and attracting desired home owners/neighbors. This is a wonderful neighborhood…please consider joining as a VGCA member but it would be best that you join as a VGCA Rec/Pool member to help support our pool.

Here is the membership information compared to our goal of 225 VGCA members and 100 VGCA Rec/Pool members:
