2022 VGCA 4th of July Biathlon

The annual Village Green 4th of July Biathlon.

Parents challenge your kids. Kids challenge your parents and friends. Everyone come out and help make this a great event and let’s kick off the 4th of July celebration early! See below to sign up.

  • When: 630pm on July 3rd (arrive no later than 6:15pm)
  • Where: Pool and Village Green Park
  • Who: VGCA Rec/Pool members and their guests — race as individual or a team.
  • What: Starts with a 250m swim (10 lengths of the pool) and finishes with a 1.1 mile run around Village Green Parkway.
  • There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for individuals as well as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals for team entrees.

Pool will be closed on July 3 Sun, 5:30pm-7pm for VGCA Biathlon events

To support the biathlon events on Sunday, July 3 we will need to close the pool from 530pm until about 7pm.  Once the last swimmer is out of the pool from the 630pm start time of the main biathlon event we will remove the lane ropes and re-open the pool.

Come on out at 6pm and cheer the contestants on (many of which are our Village Green youth)!

Thank you.

Looking for Volunteers

Hey Neighbors,

There are some positions that are open currently that really could use some volunteers. Primarily we are in need of someone to fill the role of Secretary. It would also be very helpful if we had a new Communications lead as well. As much as I have enjoyed watching our neighborhood improve in so many ways, work is taking me elsewhere for a little bit and the community would be better served by another volunteer. If you can commit a few hours a week at most to helping, please reach out to [email protected] and let them know. As always, we are also looking for volunteers to help with the landscaping and pool maintenance as well. I will be seeing you around the neighborhood.

Summer pool hours starting June 18

Pool hours from beginning June 18.  Please keep in mind that we will share the pool with HRA campers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 130-330pm from June 21 through August 4.

The first Village Green Swim Meet is Sunday, June 12 (9am)

Our first swim meet with be this Sunday, June 12 at 9am.  We will be hosting Windsor Great Park — another Newport News swim team.  We usually hold the meets on a Monday evening, but due to NNPS getting out a week later than York County and James City County schools we have had to shift out schedule to Sunday morning for the first meet.

Come on out and support our swimmers!

Please show your wristband when checking in at the pool

The lifeguards have been instructed to ask for wristbands and name/address so they can verify VGCA Pool Membership.  If you have not joined, please go to https://vgnn.org/join.

Please help the lifeguards out by visiting the table to check in.  If membership cannot be verified, the lifeguards have been directed to deny admission.  Thank you.

New to Us Lawn Tractor Finds a Home in Village Green

Did you know that our community owns and is responsible for the mowing and upkeep of not only the park and pool but also the power lines property that bisects the neighborhood? Every year, community volunteers donate their time and sometimes their own equipment to help maintain these areas. While the VGCA Board works to organize and facilitate the care of these community areas (and often joins in the actual effort), the ability to accomplish many of these ongoing maintenance chores is limited by costs and volunteer availability. Because Village Green is a non-mandatory association, the VGCA is not a separate business or organization, it is rather a collective of neighbors. Individuals who live here are equally empowered to contribute to the upkeep either through dues or volunteer participation.  Thank you to the unsung neighbors who have graciously mowed the power lines, mowed the median strips in the front when the city failed to so, and provided major maintenance to overgrown shrubbery beds.

VGCA owns and is responsible for nearly 7.5 acres in Village Green

On to the good news! Two Village Green families sourced and donated a (new to us) lawn tractor and push mower to the VGCA. Plans are in the works to modify the shed in the park to accommodate and store the tractor. Now all we need are few volunteers! Is anyone willing to pitch in and take a turn with some mowing chores? It doesn’t have to be a full summer commitment; you can just add your name to the list. As the need arises, you may be contacted to check your availability. If you can drive a lawn tractor and are interested in helping out for a few hours, please email [email protected] to add your name to the list.
