Santa visits Village Green

NNFD Station 6 had a special delivery for some very special children in Village Green on Saturday, Dec 21st. Santa delivered a couple of dozen donuts when he stopped by Station 6 awaiting his ride over in the big red sleigh with lights and sirens on.

Diane, Joy, Cheryl, Amy, and Debi saw that the children had gingerbread houses, pancakes, donuts, and the arrival of a special guest with presents for the little ones. Knowing Santa so well, he told me it really made his Christmas to have so many little ones welcome him with open arms. It was truly amazing and I hear he will be back…

For any parents looking for pics, please email me at [email protected] and I will send you a link to the photos we took.

Santa had the help of some special elves as well…thank you to everyone that made this event happen!

2019 Village Green Biathlon

The annual Biathlon was run again with some previous athletes (Carrisa and Candice came out of retirement) and equally important MANY new faces!!! What a great time. This is what Village Green is all about. Connor was DJ and official race starter due to a bicycle accident the day before. We had several last minute entries which made it fun and exciting. Coach Amy brought a distance runner with her and the Block children were resourceful in drafting teammates. (The Woodruff’s are starting their training for next year’s biathlon beginning tomorrow.) Team Potatoes shot out of the gate with a great swim and then rocketed around Village Green Pkwy with the fastest run — admittedly, they caught the race organizers by surprise!!!

We had to run 3 heats because we had 14 teams! That was amazing…and made it a bit of a challenge for the official timekeeper. 😉 Thanks for the 14 timers that were able to help out using stopwatches and cell phones.

Great job to all the participants and of course to all the winners!

2019 Village Green Junior Biathlon

The 1st annual Junior Biathlon was a SUCCESS and positioned these young athletes for future success in the Village Green Biathlon in coming years. We had 9 children participate…4 teams of 2 and 1 athlete that ran the grueling biathlon event by himself, Cameron (Coach Amy’s son). We had parents and spectators stationed throughout the cross-country track in the Village Green Park and these kids had a great time officially kicking off our 4th of July festivities this year!

Thanks to all the volunteers and spectators that came out and thanks to Connor for being the DJ and official starter for the evening.

I Want Your Dessert!!

Calling Village Green bakers of all ages!

We need your entries for our July 4th Patriot Bake-off Contest!

Let’s show our firefighters a little love and appreciation by giving them a lot of yummy treats to judge for our contest.

This year we will have 3 categories and a Kid’s only group:

  • Kid’s Only: This category is open to Village Green youth ages 12 and under. Any dessert is welcome.
  • Pies: “Pie (noun): a baked dish of fruit, or meat and vegetables, typically with a top and a base of pastry. Ex. ‘There is nothing more American than apple pie!’” Any type of dessert pie is welcome.
  • Cookies / Bars / Brownies: Any type of cookie, brownies, or dessert bars are welcome.
  • Other: Any dessert that doesn’t fit in any of the above categories.

Winners will be chosen in each category based on taste, appearance, and originality. One winner from all entries will be chosen as Most Patriotic.

Submissions must be homemade (not store bought) and must be baked or include a home-baked element. All entries are to be submitted as a whole (complete pie, complete cake, complete loaf, etc.) or in the quantity of a half dozen or more.

Registration is on day of the event between 11:00-11:25am at the picnic shelter in the park and will close 5 minutes before judging takes place.

Participants may enter multiple categories.

Participants may enter with any recipe (it does not need to be an original recipe created by the entrant.) Recipes may come from cookbooks, magazines, websites, or any other means.

Please bring a copy of your recipe.

Candy donations and raffle prizes needed…

Just a reminder that we’re now accepting candy donations for the bike parade at 678 Village Green Parkway. There’s a plastic crate behind our front brick wall. Or, if our front door is open behind the storm door, feel free to ring the bell and give us the candy in person. The cupboard is currently bare, so don’t assume someone else is donating all the candy we need.

Also, we’re still in need of a LOT more raffle prizes. We had a few merchants who donated something on the spot, but we’re still following up with others, not knowing whether they’re going to donate or not. If you know a business owner who might be willing to contribute a prize, please contact them. We have contacted pretty much all of the Tech Center businesses, plus Papa Murphy’s Yorktown, AMF bowling center, Regal Cinema and Azzurri Italian restaurant.

You can contact me at 652-5770 or [email protected] if you have any questions or if you’d like a copy of the raffle prize request letter which we have been giving to potential donors.

Village Green Swim-a-thon funds new lane ropes, a cover, and improvements

New and improved Anti-Wave lane ropes. Guaranteed to make our swimmers faster than last year!

Last summer one of our swim team parents (thanks Janelle) had a great idea to raise some money for the swim team. The neighborhood as well as family and friends were quite generous and we raised over $3000. The Village Green Swim Team purchased new lane ropes and we had a few swimmers help us get them on the cart.

Old ones…I am not sure how old they are, but heard rumors they were as old as some of the houses in Village Green.
A couple of my helpers.
New wheels and new paint.

The cart also got a make-over. New paint job, new wheels, and some marine epoxy on the plastic discs to help extend their life. Thanks Jonathan McBride for the Village Green paint job as well as installing the new wheels.

If you haven’t joined the swim team already, this is the year to do so…Village Green will be looking great in and out of the water!

We were able to buy a cover as well, so our lane ropes will last for the next generation of Village Green swimmers!

Hello, neighbors! We are now two weeks out from our neighborhood yard sale on May 11, so I hope you’re digging through your garages and cleaning out those closets! The more participation we have overall, the better we can attract customers! Remember to get your yard sale permits from the city, and please let me know if you need any assistance or have any questions. 😊
