VGCA OCTOBER EVENTS

We hope everyone has gotten into a rhythm in this new season. We appreciate everyone that helped paint the pool! Heading into October here are some events to mark your calendar with.

We are now taking prizes and candy donations to the tote on the porch of 657 VGP!!

Saturday, October 7th Movie in the park at 7:30pm. THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!
Bring chair. Popcorn will be provided. Please RSVP in comments.

Saturday,October 21st from 3-5pm. Please come dressed up in family friendly costumes for some spooky fun! We will be raising funds towards the swim team. Five dollar donation
for a hot dog with chips and a drink. We will have games and activities!!

As always please do not send your child unattended to any events. Everyone have a safe October!!!

END OF SUMMER PARTY!

Join us August 26th from 5pm – 10pm
We will have a Cook-out at 5pm first come first serve. Starting at 6pm there will be games!!
Open swim from 4-7pm come enjoy some safe fun! Bring a chair for the movie at 7:30 popcorn will be provided, we will watch the NEW SPIDER_VERSE movie!!!!!

Pool Hours Beginning August 14

VGCA Pool memberships at half-priced rates

The hottest month of the summer is upon us and now is the perfect time to join the Village Green Pool at half-priced rates!

Maybe you are new to the neighborhood, or maybe you just didn’t get a chance to join the pool earlier in the summer. Now is the time to take advantage of more than a full month of summer fun! Relax by the pool, meet your neighbors, and cool off from the heat and humidity!

VGCA Diving Board Fundraiser

Save the Diving Board!   On June 26, 2023 our diving board saw its last safe jump.  We have since had to remove it and ordered a new one.  It will be arriving in about a week but we are looking to raise funds to help offset the unexpected costs.

VGCA: ALOHA! Adult pool party

We are ten days away from the adult pool party. Please join us Saturday July 22nd from 7pm-10pm. This year it will be a themed party Luau!
We will have baby sitters in the club house please be prepared tips for them are appreciated!
Games and movies will be set up for the kiddos. We are asking that you bring a dish to share and BYOB! Hot dogs and Hamburgers will be provided.
Please note NO ONE under the age of 21 will be allowed in the pool area as well as no glass beverages in or around the pool! THANK YOU!

SAVE THE DATE: Pool resurfacing/painting Sept 6-10

It has been 6+ years since we painted the pool last which equates to 7 pool seasons.  As with any paint job there is quite a bit of prep work and will require 2 coats of paint.  I am putting the proposed schedule here so we can start planning and volunteers can add to their calendar.

Here is the proposed schedule but will be dependent upon volunteers and weather conditions at the time.

Wed, Sept 6 (need 4 volunteers):

  • Pressure wash loose paint.
  • Replace hydrostatic relief valve in deep end.
  • Repair broken and loose tiles.
  • Start time:  late afternoon
  • Approx time:  4 hours

Thurs, Sept 7: (need 4-6 volunteers):

  • Acid wash the pool.
  • Start time:  late afternoon
  • Approx time:  4 hours

Fri, Sept 8: (need 6-8 volunteers):

  • Paint
  • Start time:  morning
  • Approx time:  4 hours

Sat, Sept 9(need 6-8 volunteers):

  • Paint
  • Start time:  morning
  • Approx time:  4 hours

4th of July Events 2023

 

Please note:  there will not be a bialthlon this year due to a swim meet being held on July 3.


Tuesday, JULY 4th

9:00 a.m. DECORATE THE PARK: Come on out and help dress up the park for the day’s activities. Set up tables and attach festive decorations. Claim your spot on the grounds! A great way to get into the spirit and help make the park look right for the occasion.

10:00 a.m. UNCLE SAM’S BIKE PARADE: Fun for all!! Decorate your bikes and yourselves in your most patriotic colors and join in as we parade around the Green. The parade will be led by OUR local fire department, workload permitting.  Neighbors, rest on your porch and cheer us on as we pass by.  Participants gather at the clubhouse at 9:50 a.m.

10:45 a.m. NATIONAL ANTHEM: We will honor America and our flag with the playing of the National Anthem. 10:45 a.m. Village Green Swim Team Carnival: The swim team will have carnival games as well as raising money.  Tickets can be purchased with cash and help fund the swim team.  Please come out and support them.  Thank you!

11:00 a.m. SWEET FROG WILL BE HERE.

12:00 p.m. PICNIC IN THE PARK: Bring your favorite foods and enjoy a picnic with your neighbors while listening to music!

12:00 p.m. POOL IS OPEN FOR VGCA REC MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS ONLY:  It’s never too late to support our neighborhood and become a pool member at https://vgnn.org/join. 8:00 p.m. Movie (Jimmy Neutron) in the park for all.

Garbage, Recycling, Bulk Waste Collection Schedule Adjusted for Independence Day

On Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4, Newport News City offices and most facilities will be closed in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Residential garbage, recycling and bulk waste collection services will be affected for two weeks due to the holiday.

The normal collection schedule will be shifted two days for all services during the week of July 3, and the schedule will shift one day the week of July 10. The modified collection schedule will be in effect from Monday, July 3 through Friday, July 14. All services will return to normal on Monday, July 17.
