With spring arriving, many residents are preparing their homes for warmer temperatures and cleaning up. Beginning March 6, Newport News Public Works’ Solid Waste Division is holding a week-long Household Hazardous Waste event. This event gives residents the opportunity to dispose of materials that can’t be put in your trash cart and are not regularly accepted at the Recovery Operations Center, including oil-based paints, pesticides, fertilizers, and household cleaning products. Each household can bring up to 75 pounds of solids and up to five gallons of liquids.
Residents can bring their hazardous waste items to the Recovery Operations Center at 520 Atkinson Way from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, March 6, through Saturday, March 11. Items such as latex paints, household trash, recyclables, electronics, yard debris, and white goods (i.e., old appliances) are accepted daily during normal business hours. For additional information on items accepted during Household Hazardous Waste events, visit the Solid Waste Division website.

VGCA Membership Drive 2023
/in Uncategorized /by VGCA Pool ManagerThe Village Green Community Association membership drive is under way – be sure to join in our summer fun this year by joining the neighborhood Association and Pool! Pool memberships will remain at the same low rates they have been for years. The pool has always been the heart of the neighborhood, especially for our children, and this summer will be no different. The swim team will be hitting the water in June, and the snack bar which is managed by our VG youth will be new and improved.
Our VGCA Events Coordinator also has many events planned for youth and adults. Help support those events and the maintenance of our park and common areas for just $75 a year (pool memberships are more).
5 free one-time use pools will be provided to those who register for pool memberships by April 30th. Get your passes now!
Membership flyers were delivered in March. You may fill out the flyer and return it to the green mailbox at 625 Brandywine, or you can link to the online membership form and pay via Paypal (fees apply).

Oyster Point Ramp Access Improvements Project Begins
/in Construction, Uncategorized /by VGCA Crier EditorConstruction is set to begin this month on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT’s) Oyster Point Ramp Access Improvements Project. The project, which will begin as early as today, Jan. 10, will widen the Interstate 64 East on-ramps located at the interchanges of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard (Route 17) and Oyster Point Road (Route 171) from single-lane ramps to two-lane ramps. These improvements will add capacity to the on-ramps, streamline flow to the interstate, and provide congestion relief from overflow onto local streets during peak travel periods. Each of the on-ramps will be widened to two lanes, with traffic then merging to a single lane before entering the interstate.
During construction, motorists can anticipate some travel lane shifts within each ramp to accommodate expansion work along the shoulders. Each on-ramp is expected to remain open to traffic until final paving operations near the conclusion of the project. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2024.
For more information on the project and progress updates, visit the Project webpage. Motorists are also encouraged to sign up for email alerts related to the project.
