On a blustery but beautiful day, Village Green Neighbors were out in full force prepping the park and pool area for summer fun! Volunteers pitched in to finish up details on the park equipment, clean off the pool deck and pull out chaise lounges and chairs, clean and organize the clubhouse storage area and clean the bathrooms and kitchen area, clear leaves from around the pool perimeter and spread mulch in the flower beds. I tried to catch everyone in pictures, but I may have missed some. A huge thank you to these and all of our volunteers who come together to make this such a great neighborhood. We appreciate you and the work you so willingly do!
A big thanks goes out to Glenn and Wendy Woodell, Dave and Laura Cvitanovich, Amy Nuttal, Jonathan and Rachel McBride, Ryan and Jenn Greene, Ambrose and his boys, the Blocks, James and Aidan Mountjoy, Glenn Magnussen, Phil Krauss, Debi Henderson, Rich Spivak, Thomas Herrera, and Coach Amy. If we missed anyone…THANK YOU!

We will look to open on Mondays similar to last year if we hit membership goals listed below.
90 VGCA Rec/Pool memberships and we will open on Mondays thru July 18.
100 VGCA Rec/Pool memberships and we will open on Mondays for the entire season.
We will look to offer an adult lap swim 8-9pm during the summer.
Concessions will be improved from last year.
Pool rules will stay the same.
We will have an Out of School Pool Party.
HRA and CGBD plan to use our pool again this year.
We plan to receive revenue from rental agreements with Hampton Roads Academy (HRA) and the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins (CGBD) Swim Team. This helps us keep the pool running and in great shape.
HRA campers will use the pool during open swim Tues/Thurs 130-330pm during the summer.
CGBD will use the pool Mon-Fri 5am-9am — the pool is closed to all other swimmers at this time.
The membership drive will be right around the corner…keep an eye out for additional information.
Thank you!

As VGCA continues to self-manage the pool, we are looking for an extra volunteer. Specifically, I am looking for an adult that can help me with the following:
provide guidance and support to lifeguards.
answer questions for new and potential members.
help monitor pool chemicals and the pumps (very easy to do).
It is a great opportunity to give back to the neighborhood especially for an adult who is up at the pool on a regular basis. There is very little effort involved but it would help me out during the week when I am working.

As summer comes to a close, we will have an End of Summer Pool Party on August 28, 2021. The pool will be open to all Village Green neighbors for this event.
Around 3pm there will be hamburgers, hot dogs, and possibly some other treats will be provided. Consider donating to the Village Green swim team if you attend and/or grab a bite to eat.
Then roll into the End of Summer Party in the Park that will have Sweet Frog, crafts, and a movie (Disney’s Onward) with popcorn.

We had quite a few volunteers staff the VGCA Concessions Stand this summer during pool hours. Thank you to all those young workers (ranging in age from 6-14) that helped make it a success!
Their goal was to raise money for our own water cannon to help keep the pool cool during July/August — approximately $200. In total, they raised $668.05 — $200 of it went to purchase the pump and wiring for the VGCA Water Cannon. The remaining $468.05 will be donated to the VG Swim Team which most of the volunteers swim for.
Keep this in mind for your young volunteers for next season as I am sure we will be looking for volunteers and a parent or two to help organize and oversee it.
Thank you to everyone that purchased from these young volunteers and a SPECIAL BIG THANK YOU to those young VGCA volunteers that staffed it. What a great year for our youth and the pool!

Parents and grandparents: I am asking that each of you have a discussion with your your swimmers about this post. I plan to post it at the pool too.
Please remind your children (teenagers too) that the pool is to be enjoyable and fun but must be done safely. All pool patrons should be respected. Verbal and physical activities that are taking away from safe and enjoyable time at the pool is prohibited (not allowed). Please remind them to have fun but to be SAFE and RESPECTFUL to everyone.
The game of “bulldog” will be prohibited during swim practice as well as during open swim. The game has changed a bit and has lead to some issues. Feel free to contact me directly if you would like to better understand my decision on this. I am often up at the pool.
Alternatively, the lifeguards will allow “sharks and minnows” which is essentially tag in the water. This should be safer for all that are playing. If that morphs into what I (or the lifeguards) perceive to be unsafe, we will pull that too.
We want to continue to have our pool patrons enjoy the pool but BE SAFE.
Lifeguards have been informed to handle accordingly.
Let’s keep the fun meter high!
Thank you.
