2020 Highlights

It was pointed out to me that we had quite a bit of fun last year despite the odds and I have neglected on commenting on such things. Therefore, I wanted to take a moment and talk about some of the things we accomplished as a community. Now I know this is not everything, but it is a few of the highlights from 2020. I would not call it a “Year in Review” per se, mostly because it would be denying the fact that so much negativity was prevalent in our lives. Instead, I want to focus on the good things that happened for us in hopes that it will inspire our Neighborhood to continue these trends.

First up was the fact we had a pool opened for the summer. It was such a big thing for us because someone had to step into the role of manager and organize everything from lifeguards to making sure the chemicals were set exactly right. Lucky for us Donnie has decided to stay on in that capacity and we look forward to yet another successful year at the pool this summer.

Swim Team meets kept our young ones in the water and helped to fight off the pains of a challenging year. Even though it looked different than it had in the past it was still a great success for us here. I know that my little ones are seriously looking forward to the warmer weather for swimming practice.

Next let’s talk about Movie Night in the Park. It was our own little version of drive-in theaters, filled with popcorn and social distancing as best we could. Someone even managed to convince some food trucks to come out and breweries to deliver. I’m sorry I can’t remember who you are right now but Thank You! That I hope we can do again. Especially when the weather warms up.

Then we had a few campouts in the park too. What a great way for folks to come together and teach the kids how to camp. A repeat will be happing in the future, this one I know for certain. On that note though quick, let’s not forget that most of these events happened in our park. Thanks to many volunteers the park has remained a crucial part of the Green.

We do have some things we need to do still in order to make the park even better. Thanks to the folks in our Social Committee, we have already managed to raise over $1,300.00 for new playground equipment, IN ONE EVENT ONLY!!!! The Turkey Trot was a huge success and although we are taking a pause on events right now there are more in the works.

All this and we still managed to keep many of our Village Green traditions as well. The Big Man himself, Santa Clause, made time to come have breakfast with the little ones even with the need for social distance. The 4th of July Parade, and all the shenanigans of the biathlon has become a household favorite. Seriously, these amazing people went for a swim and then decide “Oh hey I think I’ll air dry by running around the neighborhood.” I’m just saying after the Turkey Trot, I know I need to train to be ready for that. Just need to learn how to actually, um, swim.

I hope to see many more events like this coming soon. I know for some of us it is hard to think past tomorrow or even today, and that is ok. This storm will pass just like the last one and you have the whole Village to lean on. We acknowledge that it was not an easy time for any of us, but we also managed to have some well-deserved fun. I hope that we see you at the next event safe, and healthy. Until then, please wash your hands, wear your mask, and take a moment for yourself.

2019 Village Green Biathlon

The annual Biathlon was run again with some previous athletes (Carrisa and Candice came out of retirement) and equally important MANY new faces!!! What a great time. This is what Village Green is all about. Connor was DJ and official race starter due to a bicycle accident the day before. We had several last minute entries which made it fun and exciting. Coach Amy brought a distance runner with her and the Block children were resourceful in drafting teammates. (The Woodruff’s are starting their training for next year’s biathlon beginning tomorrow.) Team Potatoes shot out of the gate with a great swim and then rocketed around Village Green Pkwy with the fastest run — admittedly, they caught the race organizers by surprise!!!

We had to run 3 heats because we had 14 teams! That was amazing…and made it a bit of a challenge for the official timekeeper. 😉 Thanks for the 14 timers that were able to help out using stopwatches and cell phones.

Great job to all the participants and of course to all the winners!

2019 Village Green Junior Biathlon

The 1st annual Junior Biathlon was a SUCCESS and positioned these young athletes for future success in the Village Green Biathlon in coming years. We had 9 children participate…4 teams of 2 and 1 athlete that ran the grueling biathlon event by himself, Cameron (Coach Amy’s son). We had parents and spectators stationed throughout the cross-country track in the Village Green Park and these kids had a great time officially kicking off our 4th of July festivities this year!

Thanks to all the volunteers and spectators that came out and thanks to Connor for being the DJ and official starter for the evening.

July 4th help wanted.

We are still in desperate need for volunteers for our July 4th celebration. We do not have any positions filled yet.

You can sign up online at the website or by contacting Amy Nuttall [email protected].

We will have a brief volunteer meeting at the clubhouse on Thursday, May 30th at 6pm. You may also bring any donations/raffle items you have collected.

In case you missed the original post, it is listed below.

Also, if you have helped in the past, please send Amy a note letting her know what you have done and whether or not you are able to help this year.

Original Post:

Our 4th of July celebration is 50, so let’s make it fabulous!!

We need volunteers to help coordinate this year’s celebration. There is a wide variety of tasks and no help is too small. We are hoping to have enough volunteers this year so that we can have a committee chair/lead for at least the following areas (click on links for more info):

There is a lot of work and we really need as many volunteers as possible to make this day a success.

One of the tasks that everyone can help with is to begin gathering donations for the raffle prizes. These can be gift cards, services, experiences, or items. There is always a lot of excitement surrounding the raffle, and this is a great way for everyone to be a part of it.

Please sign up on the links above or if you have questions, please email Amy Nuttall with any questions: [email protected].

Fourth of July Picnic Party Was Fun for All

Fourth of July Picnic Party Was Fun for All

Our annual 4th of July bash offered a big parade, fun raffle, pool party, and splendid weather.

2018’s rendition fell on a Wednesday. Mid-week holidays equal a weeklong party for some. Early July is best known for hot weather and a neighborhood celebration in this little place we call home.

The fun started on Monday night when the Patriots swim team hosted Villages of Westminster/WISC for a fast night of swimming. Our swimmers love showing off abundant neighborhood pride. Thanks to VG for coming out and buying food and cheering us on. We won this dual meet. Many swimmers dropped times. The competition and spirit were amazing.

Tuesday night featured our annual biathlon. All ages competed in this year’s splash & dash. All are invited to next year’s event. VG especially thanks Laura Cvitanovich for organizing this athletic tradition.

The big day finally arrived, ushering a sunny dry day for a picnic celebration. Kids lined up for a parade led by NNFD. There were 4 or 5 trucks but the main attraction was Uncle Sam himself together with kids on bikes.

After the parade routed through VG the party started. Little kids enjoyed the carnival and played games and won prizes. Thanks to our swim team for running the games.

There were food tables, patriotic displays, and smiles everywhere. Did we mention the raffle? Prizes were amazing! Think about stacks of gift cards, artwork, and other goodies.

A natural fit for the events was a pool party. All were invited to the wet & wild time. Dave Cvitanovich was the announcer. From his mic, Dave led dive competitions. Do you have what it takes to win belly flop? See you in 2019 for next year’s annual Independence day picnic in VG.

Check out this video posted on NNFD’s Facebook page showing our parade.
