Area by the tennis courts received some much needed attention this past week.

Thanks to a group of folks that came out last Sunday afternoon and after TS Isaias on Tuesday to work on clearing brush and removing a tree that fell from a neighbor’s yard. The team still has more work to do, but we are committed to cleaning the area up so it can be enjoyed once again. Thanks for all the hard work!

Sun, 8/2 @ 3pm: VGCA tennis court and surrounding areas clean up

On Sunday, Aug 2 beginning around 3pm, we will be attempting to get the area by the tennis courts cleaned up. If you can come out to help that would be very much appreciated. Shoes pants and gloves are recommended as it’s quite overgrown and some poison ivy has been spotted out there. We hope to see many of you there. Bring shovels, rakes, garbage bags, and gloves to help. Weedeaters, chainsaw, hedge clippers, blowers, and lawnmowers might be helpful too.

Changes to Phase 3 in Hampton Roads and the impact on the pool…

Some folks have asked if we are going back to the pool reservations or swim lanes. The short answer is “No” BUT please continue to read below.

According to what I read (and I verified with our health inspector) we can continue to operate the pool as laid out in Phase 3 — which you can read more about here.

As you may have noticed, while I am volunteering as pool manager, I have been wearing a face covering as required by Phase 3. We would encourage others who visit the pool to wear a phase cover while on the pool deck BUT it is not required. Please do NOT wear it while in the pool.

What is required?

  • VGCA Pool will still abide by the 75% capacity rule for outdoor pools The only additional restriction is if the pool is rented for a pool party which is then considered a social gathering and has a maximum of 50 individuals.
  • Folks that are not members of the same household practice 10ft of social distancing while on the pool deck or while in the water. Please help with this and remind your children of these requirements.
  • Continue to see a lifeguard when you enter and answer required questions appropriately before entering the pool deck.
  • Stay home if you feel ill or have been around someone who is ill.
  • Enjoy the pool!

Also, any pool parties or events in the VGCA park must abide by the restriction of a maximum of 50 individuals in a social gathering.

If you have any questions, please me (Donnie Woodruff) or contact the VGCA Board at [email protected].

Be safe, abide by phase 3 requirements, and enjoy the pool!sd

Village Green Yard Sale

The Village Green Yard Sale is planned for Saturday, August 1st 8am-2pm. Please remember you will need to purchase a yard sale permit from the NNPD. More information can be found here: https://www.nnva.gov/639/Garage-Rummage-Sale-Permit-Applications

Mon, July 27 (5-8pm) — Food trucks and Swim Meet

On Monday, July 27 we will have Kona Ice and Frank’s Monster Munchies back in the neighborhood. Please come on out and support this local vendor as well as the swim team as they kick off their last week of swim camp with an intra-squad meet. Please feel free to cheer on the kids from outside the fence as we will be limiting access to the pool deck in order to provide a safer environment for all.

PLEASE NOTE: Frank’s Monster Munchies will NOT be taking pre-orders this time.

Head up to the park, order some food, cheer on the kids while you wait, and then enjoy the delicious food from Frank’s Monster Munchies…support local and support someone who supported us while we were still in Phase 1!

VGCA Grounds Committee

I’ve had many folks come up to me recently asking, “How can I help?” Without a Grounds Committee Lead, I reached out to most of those folks who have expressed interest and we held a meeting. Some are relatively new Village Green neighbors and others have been here for a while. We had 10 volunteers attend the meeting. They are our VGCA Grounds Committee (but we still need a committee lead) that will begin to tackle projects around the VGCA properties.

They have tackled a few projects already!

They stepped up to mow the two VGCA lots near Plymouth Circle (under the power lines) for Steve Frame for the rest of this season. Thanks Max D and Josh J for helping out! The grass cutting by Steve and a few other neighbors goes unnoticed but is an important part for maintaining our property. THANK YOU to all those that cut VGCA grass.

The group also cut down two red tips and a small tree around the pool deck which was causing the concrete pool deck to raise in one section. It also helps minimize the amount of leaves on the pool deck. Thanks — Ryan G, Steve G, and Glenn M.

Some general park cleanup was done as well thanks to Peter G heading that up. I am sure others helped out — thanks for everything the group is doing!

Next, they plan to tackle some safety concerns around the park and tennis courts, so if you see more activity in those areas it’s more than likely a member of the Grounds Committee.

Neighbors living around the park and tennis courts area, don’t hesitate to say “hi”, introduce yourself, and “thank” them. Along with this, you can also verify they are a Grounds Committee member at the same time. 😉

Thank you to everyone who supported our quiz night - St George's ...

It takes many key volunteers to have the pool, swim camp, food truck events, movies in the park, DJ, and our parade. Thank you to Laura Poole, Wes Poole, Jenn Greene, Doris Dennis, Rachel McBride, Janelle Maciejewski, Stan VanPelt, Joy Charbonneau, the VGCA Board, and anyone else I might have missed.

A big special thanks goes out to Laura Cvitanovich for being there each step of the way with the pool and at the last possible moment getting NNFD Station #6 to do the parade. Truly…without her we don’t have the pool or 4th of July Parade this year.

Behind the scenes, 40 days ago the pool wasn’t going to open, no swim team/camp, and no parade. Through dedication and many hours we were able to do it!

Please show you support for your neighbors and our amazing community by joining VGCA for $75 a year. Consider joining the pool too! https://vgnn.org/join

Thank you and this is truly the best neighborhood!
