I’ve had many folks come up to me recently asking, “How can I help?” Without a Grounds Committee Lead, I reached out to most of those folks who have expressed interest and we held a meeting. Some are relatively new Village Green neighbors and others have been here for a while. We had 10 volunteers attend the meeting. They are our VGCA Grounds Committee (but we still need a committee lead) that will begin to tackle projects around the VGCA properties.
They have tackled a few projects already!
They stepped up to mow the two VGCA lots near Plymouth Circle (under the power lines) for Steve Frame for the rest of this season. Thanks Max D and Josh J for helping out! The grass cutting by Steve and a few other neighbors goes unnoticed but is an important part for maintaining our property. THANK YOU to all those that cut VGCA grass.
The group also cut down two red tips and a small tree around the pool deck which was causing the concrete pool deck to raise in one section. It also helps minimize the amount of leaves on the pool deck. Thanks — Ryan G, Steve G, and Glenn M.
Some general park cleanup was done as well thanks to Peter G heading that up. I am sure others helped out — thanks for everything the group is doing!
Next, they plan to tackle some safety concerns around the park and tennis courts, so if you see more activity in those areas it’s more than likely a member of the Grounds Committee.
Neighbors living around the park and tennis courts area, don’t hesitate to say “hi”, introduce yourself, and “thank” them. Along with this, you can also verify they are a Grounds Committee member at the same time. 😉
The lifeguards and a couple of volunteers prepped the pool after TS Isaias rolled through…
/in Pool, Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerWe were able to open the pool only 2 hours later than normal thanks to the hard work of our lifeguards and my assistant pool manager, Connor.
Village Green Flag Football team started by neighborhood kids
/in Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerThis young man decided to get with his brother and start a flag football team. With the approval of the VGCA Board they have been practicing on VGCA property under the power lines for 1.5 weeks now. The group had their first game on Sat, Aug 8 at 10am. Parents lined the sidelines and cheered them on too. Ages range from 7-13 yrs old and its boys and girls. If you live in VGCA and have children interested in joining, please stop by around 10am on the days they practice…usually 3-4 days a week. Games will be on Saturdays from what they have told me.
Just another thing that makes Village Green a great place to live!
Area by the tennis courts received some much needed attention this past week.
/in Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerThanks to a group of folks that came out last Sunday afternoon and after TS Isaias on Tuesday to work on clearing brush and removing a tree that fell from a neighbor’s yard. The team still has more work to do, but we are committed to cleaning the area up so it can be enjoyed once again. Thanks for all the hard work!
Sun, 8/2 @ 3pm: VGCA tennis court and surrounding areas clean up
/in Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerOn Sunday, Aug 2 beginning around 3pm, we will be attempting to get the area by the tennis courts cleaned up. If you can come out to help that would be very much appreciated. Shoes pants and gloves are recommended as it’s quite overgrown and some poison ivy has been spotted out there. We hope to see many of you there. Bring shovels, rakes, garbage bags, and gloves to help. Weedeaters, chainsaw, hedge clippers, blowers, and lawnmowers might be helpful too.
Changes to Phase 3 in Hampton Roads and the impact on the pool…
/in Pool, Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerSome folks have asked if we are going back to the pool reservations or swim lanes. The short answer is “No” BUT please continue to read below.
According to what I read (and I verified with our health inspector) we can continue to operate the pool as laid out in Phase 3 — which you can read more about here.
As you may have noticed, while I am volunteering as pool manager, I have been wearing a face covering as required by Phase 3. We would encourage others who visit the pool to wear a phase cover while on the pool deck BUT it is not required. Please do NOT wear it while in the pool.
What is required?
Also, any pool parties or events in the VGCA park must abide by the restriction of a maximum of 50 individuals in a social gathering.
If you have any questions, please me (Donnie Woodruff) or contact the VGCA Board at [email protected].
Be safe, abide by phase 3 requirements, and enjoy the pool!sd
Water Cannon has been installed
/in Pool, Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerThe Coast Guard Blue Dolphins (CGBD) swim team installed the water cannon this morning. VGCA’s intends to run it from 8pm (night before) until noon daily. We will move it out of the way for open swim. The idea is it will help with circulation and also cool the water temperatures which were 92-94 degrees last week.
Enjoy the refreshing water during these hot days!
It’s never too late to join the pool and we are running a special now….click here for details. Plus this year we plan to stay open on the weekends in September…so you are getting even more for you money.

Mon, July 27 (5-8pm) — Food trucks and Swim Meet
/in Pool, Post, Uncategorized, Village Green /by VGCA Pool ManagerOn Monday, July 27 we will have Kona Ice and Frank’s Monster Munchies back in the neighborhood. Please come on out and support this local vendor as well as the swim team as they kick off their last week of swim camp with an intra-squad meet. Please feel free to cheer on the kids from outside the fence as we will be limiting access to the pool deck in order to provide a safer environment for all.
PLEASE NOTE: Frank’s Monster Munchies will NOT be taking pre-orders this time.
Head up to the park, order some food, cheer on the kids while you wait, and then enjoy the delicious food from Frank’s Monster Munchies…support local and support someone who supported us while we were still in Phase 1!
